What are Disney Fun Runs?
Disney Fun Runs are activities at some of the Walt Disney World Resorts that allows guests to walk or run between one and two miles (3k is the longest) in the morning around the resort to earn a prize. The prizes vary from water bottles to headphones to pins to beignets (yes, that does say beignets), and the fun runs are some of the funnest activities we’ve done at the resorts. There are signs and cast members throughout the course showing which way to go, and the cast members cheer you on at each point. It’s such a fun way to start the day and see how pretty the resorts are in the morning.
Cast Members help make the Fun Runs even better!
Who can participate?
Anyone can participate in a Disney Fun Run even if you’re not staying at the Disney resort that is hosting the run or even if you’re not staying on Disney property. Locals are welcome to come join in the fun as well as anyone staying in the Walt Disney World resorts or surrounding hotels. Any age can participate too, but you don’t need to pay for children under three years old.

Do you have to run?
Even though it is called a Fun Run, you do not have to run. That’s probably why I enjoy them so much. Robert loves to run them, but I enjoy the scenery and watching the sunrise as I walk the route. Many of the participants do run as those interested in the runs are often runners, but there are also some who enjoy just walking to participate in the fun.

How much does it cost?
While every resort has different prizes, the pricing for each fun run is $15 per person plus tax. No discounts are allowed except the Disney Vacation Club discount at Old Key West. Fort Wilderness is the only one that is free and does not charge, but they only have fun runs on major holidays, so it’s a special thing there.

How often do the resorts have fun runs?
While most of the resorts that host fun runs have them weekly, there is one resort (All-Stars) that has theirs every other week, and one other (Fort Wilderness) that has theirs on major holidays, so be sure to consult the information below and check your Disney activities calendar at the resort when you check in for updated dates and times.
The only time the fun runs are not scheduled is during RunDisney race weekends. You can check rundisney.com to see when the races fall, but usually the activities calendars will let guests know if there is a week the fun run will not be held due to a RunDisney race.

What if there is bad weather?
While this is rare, especially in the mornings, if there is bad weather, it is up to special Disney cast members to decide whether it is safe enough for guests to still participate in the fun run. Guests’ safety is always most important, so if the weather is bad, they may have to cancel the fun run.

Do we get anything for it?
Every resort has a fun prize they give at the end of their fun run. They’re all different, and if you don’t finish for one reason or another, we’ve seen them still give the prizes to guests. Cast Members know things happen, especially with little ones or if it’s unusually hot one morning, so we’ve seen them still offer the prize even for those who don’t finish. They also provide small water bottles and a snack at some of the resort fun runs when you’re finished with the run which is a nice prize in itself when it’s early, and you’re hungry and/or thirsty. Most of them also have photo props to remember your fun run by.

Is it worth it?
While $15 doesn’t seem like a lot, we know it can add up quickly when you have several family members participating. We absolutely love the Disney resort fun runs though, and if you’re looking for something fun to do with the family while at your resort, this would definitely be a great activity to get the family moving and making memories together. You also will each get to take a keepsake home remembering the fun you had which makes it even better.

Other important info
You can pre-register for the fun runs ahead of time at the activities center or by calling 407-WDW-PLAY or register the morning of. We personally always do it the morning of in case something happens, and we don’t make it. Pre-registration is generally 30 minutes before the fun run begins. Be sure to get there early as there is a waiver to fill out for everyone. Times are subject to change to earlier for the spring and summer months and later for the fall and winter months, so always check your activities guide at your resort.

Any updates from anyone? Thanks
Is there any kind of email to write and request for these to come back? Seems like an outdoor activity that is healthy would be worth bringing back.
The only email would be the general guest relations email, but it’s definitely worth reaching out about. We’ve been very surprised that these haven’t been brought back yet. ([email protected])
Any updates on whether Disney Fun Runs are resuming?
We’ve been told they will return, but don’t have any idea when at this time.
Do you have any updates on this? Are these all still running on a normal schedule?
Disney has suspended all Fun Runs at the resorts until further notice. We hope that when the runDisney races come back (fingers crossed for Marathon Weekend in January) the Fun Runs will come back too, but we just don’t know at this point.
Just sent an email to guest services regarding fun runs. If they can do rundisney events they can do this
This is great. We are headed down next year right before pre-season for high school sports and this looks like such a fun way to Disney and to be able to work out. Thank you so much for sharing!
You’re welcome!
Have the Fun Runs started up again? We are coming down in 2 weeks
They have not. We’re hoping they’ll return soon as we really miss them.
We will be staying at Fort Wilderness this summer and would like to do the fun run. Does anyone know if they always do the 4th of July run? If so, is it a 5K or the shorter distance? Thank you.
July 4th is one of the holidays they generally do a fun run on. The fun run there is normally a 5k, but they have had to change the route a couple times due to the construction there right now.
Thanks Robert!
Thanks!! This is awesome.
We are going to be at POFQ for Thanksgiving. Do you know if the tesorts will be having the fun runs during that week?
Generally the only times they cancel the runs are runDisney weekends. It looks like all the regular runs are scheduled for Thanksgiving week, as well as the Fort Wilderness “Turkey Trot 5k” fun run.
Are the runs back yet? I’ve always wanted to do this!! Thanks for sharing all the info!
Not yet. Hopefully soon!
